The family of former Kanu Secretary General Joseph Kamotho has denied reports claiming that the politician is critically ill.
Reports on the social media and in one of the local dailies indicated that the politician was in a coma at a private hospital.
One of his daughters, Nyokabi, confirmed that the former Mathioya MP was indeed in hospital but said he was recovering well.
โWe would like to inform the public that J.J. (Mr Kamotho) has been in good health and high spirits until he was taken ill with severe pneumonia on Sunday March 3,โ Ms Nyokabi said in a statement to media houses on Thursday.
Ms Nyokabi urged the media to give the politician time to recover.
โWe would like to thank mainstream media-houses for respecting his privacy and giving him time to recover and regain his energy.
โWe humbly appreciate that you continue to respect our privacy until he has fully recuperated,โ she said.
Mr Kamothoโs health status hit the headlines during campaigns for the Murangโa senate seat after he was taken ill while addressing a meeting at Ihura Stadium.
During the March 4 General Elections, former Kenyan ambassador to Belgium Kembi Gitura was elected as Murang’a senator after he defeated Mr Kamotho.
