The Kenya Christian Lawyers Fellowship Wednesday argued before Justice George Odunga that Audrey Mbugua Ithibu had not produced any medical evidence to back up her assertions that she is of transgender status. The organisation instead claims the applicant suffers from a treatable condition known as “Gender Identity Disorder.’
The organisation, though lawyer Harison Kinyanjui has also challenged Audrey’s assertions that she has suffered psychological trauma due to her claimed gender status.
Audrey has sued the Kenya National Examination Council seeking the removal of the male gender mark in her academic certificate to reflect her female status. She also seeks to change her name from Ithibu Andrew Mbugua to Audrey Mbugua Ithibu. The organization argues that this would set a dangerous precedent.
A supporting affidavit by the Executive Director of the Organisation, Joyce Kabaki says they seeks to provide a Christian perspective to the debate.
