Deputy President William Ruto has rubbished claims of discontent by some coalition members of the Jubilee government.
He dismissed as “petty politicking” allegations that the union between United Republican Party and The National Alliance was under threat as a result of skewed appointments in government.
An article carried by the Sunday Nation quoted Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter saying the Kalenjins were getting increasingly impatient and claimed that the Deputy President was also unsettled buy the state of affairs in the Jubilee government.
“Things are not working as expected. The appointments are skewed towards one party yet our people were told this is a 50-50 power sharing plan,” the legislator claimed.
But the Deputy President dismissed the claims as a “hangover from the days of half a loaf of bread” in reference to the former grand coalition government.
“I am telling these politicians especially those in Jubilee to style up. We have a country to run, we have a manifesto to deliver on and there is no time for petty politicking,” Mr Ruto said.
He was speaking in Thika where he led 17 members of Parliament at a harambee in aid of St Bernadette Catholic Church Ngoingwa. They were hosted by area MP Alice Ng’ang’a and her Ruiru counterpart Esther Gathogo.
“We cannot run the government through the media or propaganda. The President and I are experienced enough to drive our development agenda and do not need brokers or middlemen. This is the time to ask what can be done for the 40 million and that’s our focus,” he said.
