DEVOTION:This Is God’s Economics 101!

In today’s passage, Christ brings to conclusion the issue of worry and also shows us a better way to deal with it.  Before we see what Christ says, let us review what we have learnt so far about worry. First we saw that worry does absolutely nothing for us. Secondly, we learnt that we shouldn’t worry because our Heavenly knows what we need and therefore we should trust that He will provide for these needs.

But there is even a better way to deal with this worry. Christ says:

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew6:33

This is a very interesting solution to worry! Notice what Christ is saying! He says, here is what you should focus on, God’s Kingdom and His righteousness. Why? This is because if we prioritize these, then, all these things will be given to us.

  1. This means in your Christian life, prioritize God’s agenda. Make God and His agenda a priority in your life. The rewards for doing this, Christ says,  all your needs will be provided by God. “These things” refers to what worries people as listed above such as: food, clothes, drink etc.
  2. I like the way this is stated. Once we seek first His kingdom and his righteousness, then we do not have to ask for what we need. He says these will be given to us as well.
  3. For those who have not given their lives to Christ, then this would be a first priority. Become part of the heavenly family first. Receive the cleansing of your sins and be declared righteous because of the blood of Christ. Then and only then will you be able to enjoy these benefits. Here is a verse that says it all concerning this truth.

I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread. Psalm 37:25

  1. Are you in need of your basic needs? Has this been a constant need in your life? How long has this been? If this has been for a long time, then you need to examine your priorities. There is a very high chance you have relegated God and his work to be the least in your priorities. How do you rank God and his work in your priorities?
  2. How has this passage spoken to you today?

But seek first his kingdom

 And his righteousness,

 And all these things

 Will be given

 To you as

Matthew 6:33
