Interesting:Binyavanga Wainaina appointed Kenya’s ambassador to Uganda

After coming out and Uganda passing Anti-Homosexuality Bill,How is Uganda going to handle him?RENOWNED Kenyan author Binyavanga Wainaina has been posted as Kenyan ambassador to Uganda with effect from April 1.

In February Binyavanga led the chorus of international protest against President Yoweri Museveni signing the Anti-Homosxuality Bill into law.

“The law is a desperate act by a desperate dictator to find relevance in any way possible,” said Binyavanga.

Yesterday in Uganda, President Museveni said he had not yet met a gay person and wanted to meet one so he could say he, or she, was making a big mistake.

However Museveni is ignoring the Ugandan Ministry of Health which has officially told him that “Homosexuality existed in Africa way before the coming of the white man.”

Kenya has traditionally been very tolerant towards gay people although ‘sodomy’ is still a crime according to the Penal Code.

It is thought that Binyavanga’s appointment is sending a message that Kenya is committed to the human rights of all East Africans, whatever their politics, preferences, or private lives.

It is also thought that his appointment might have something to do with the fact that today is April Fools Day.
