
Kisii, Kenya: Ford People candidate in the Bonchari Constituency by-election Zebedeo Opore Monday emerged the winner the highly contested poll that had attracted six candidates.
Opore, ODM’s John Oyioka and Wiper’s Charles Onyancha are some of the candidates of the parliamentary seat that fell vacant after Court of Appeal nullified the election of Oyioka. Opore took the lead with 10,947 votes, followed by Oyioka 6,977 and Onyacha came in third with 5,171 in all 81 polling centres.
Other candidates in the poll are David Ogega (Democratic Party) who garnered 683 votes, Paul Matagaro (Kenya National Congress) 545, Geoffrey Omwando (Kenya Social Congress) 84 an Charles Mogaka (Kenya Labour Party) 42. A total of 673 votes were rejected in the mini-poll that registered a 61% voter turnout.
Results from polling stations were being transmitted electronically through the results transmission system (RTS) to the tallying centre at Itierio Boys Secondary school.
