A delegation of MCAs and residents from Migori are scheduled to go to State House Nairobi where they are expected to issue a formal apology to President Uhuru Kenyatta over the rowdy Migori rally last Monday.
The delegation that has over two hundred people stopped over at the Technical University along Nairobi’s Haille Selassie Avenue while waiting for the arrival of Migori Governor Okoth Obado.
The delegation that has travelled from the county in a convoy of eight buses will be led by Obado who was also at the rally when the youths threw shoes and stones at the dais where the president and other dignitaries were seated.
The delegation some in college buses left Technical University and is now camped at Uhuru park waiting for Obado who is said to be at Nairobi County offices meeting Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.
The incident elicited a tongue lash from several quarters with some leaders from Migori county being accused of paying youths to disrupt the function.
Six youths were arraigned in court on charges of causing a public disturbance after the rally. The six faced a single charge of causing disturbance before Migori Principal Magistrate Edwin Nyaga.
State counsel Kenneth Kiruai told the court that the six had been positively identified as having committed the offence that plunged the presidential rally into chaos.
Police in Migori and Nairobi had said that initial investigations implicated two MPs from the area and were probing phone records for a payment to the tune of Sh60,000 that was paid out to cause the disruption.
Nyatike MP Omondi Anyanga who had been accused denied he was behind the chaos.
“I do not want to comment on allegations. Those claiming that I sent money should tell you the Mpesa reference number and the dates when it’s alleged I sent the money,” he said.
Suna East MP Junet Mohamed who also recorded a statement at the CID offices in Migori county over his alleged involvement in the disruption.
Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale who accompanied Mohamed to the CID office said that the incident was indicative of the political temperatures in the country.
“If a shoe is thrown at you , you need to soul search yourself .Those are disappointed Kenyans tired of Uhuru’s empty promises,” Khalwale said.
The President commenting on the incident at a different function said it was shameful for politicians to hire young people to cause violence and heckle other leaders for small money instead of helping them to aspire to achieve something meaningful in life.
“The future belongs to the youth and we should help them fulfill their dreams, and those politicians should stop their disgraceful habit of misusing the young men and women,” he said. The president had gone to Migori to launch an anti-malaria campaign.
