A State House vehicle that was stolen last week in Ruai, Nairobi, has been recovered in Uganda.
A police source said Wednesday that the vehicle was recovered on the side of a road in Tororo.
Uganda police and officers from Kenya’s Flying Squad Unit recovered the car Tuesday evening.
Bungoma CID boss Peter Mabeya said one suspect was arrested in Bungoma Town in connection with the theft.
The head of the Flying Squad Unit, Munga Nyale, confirmed the recovery of the car and said a statement on the matter would be issued later.
The BMW was stolen from Chief Inspector David Machui Maina, who was driving into his home compound in Utawala, Nairobi, when four armed men confronted him.
They forced him into the back seat and drove off. They abandoned him a few metres from the Administration Police Training College in Embakasi six hours later.
ILLEGAL ALTERATIONS
Police launched a search for the stolen vehicle in Nairobi and extended the hunt to neighbouring countries.
A man was arrested in connection with the theft of the car and was charged before a Nakuru court.
Aggrey Odhiambo Ochieng was kept at the Nakuru Central Police Station after an application by prosecutors.
Prosecutor Cosmas Ikunywa told Senior Principal Magistrate John Mwaniki that the suspect had offered to give them information pertaining to the theft of the vehicle.
Police sources claimed that the stolen car underwent illegal alterations at Mr Ochieng’s garage before it disappeared.
