CONTROVERSIAL Former First Lady Lucy Kibaki is fightingย  for her life at the Nairobi Hospital.

Lucy was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday night after she reportedly complained of chest pains.

She was taken to hospital by family members and admitted in the St Teresaโ€™s Ward.

Yesterday, doctors attending to Lucy ย made arrangements to transfer her to a different ward to ensure her privacy.

Although Mama Lucy was still in the ward where she was initially admitted as of last evening, the medics said she will soon be transferred to another ward, “to ensure no disturbance and no attention from the public”.

โ€œWe are making arrangements to transfer her to another ward as a precaution and ensure that confidentiality is upheld,โ€ an employee of the Nairobi Hospital who cannot be identified told the Star.

The medic said that initial tests have been done, and that “more investigations are being done to establish her conditionโ€.

However, the medic sought to assure us that โ€œLucy is in stable condition, but we cannot tell when and for how long she is going to remain in hospital, as the results from the tests that we have done are still not yet outโ€.

Efforts to get a response from former President Mwai Kibakiโ€™s press team bore no fruit, with a section even denying that she was unwell.

โ€œWe are working on strict instructions to ensure that no information concerning her condition is leaked to the public. We are not supposed to disclose any information,โ€ the hospital source said.

Security at the prestigious hospital was heightened, with guards going the extra mile to ensure no โ€˜suspiciousโ€™ visitors were allowed into the wards during visiting hours.

No senior government officials or family members and friends had gone to ย see Lucy by early evening.

Lucy has kept an uncharacteristically low profile for close to four years now.

She has hardly been seen in public since August 2010.ย  Her lively and energetic jig as she celebrated the ushering in of the new constitution on the dais in Uhuru Park before invited heads of state and government, was her last public function covered by media.

After the promulgation, Mama Lucy maintained a totally low profile, leading ย  to speculation that she had died while undergoing treatment at a local private hospital, reports that were vehemently denied by the then President’s family.
