The rift between Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and MCAs has continued to widen over the purchase of 72 vehicles for ward administrators.

Kabogo yesterday shouted down Ngewa MCA Karungo wa Thang’wa during his speech.

Thang’wa said MCAs will not pass the supplementary budget that proposes the purchase of the 72 vehicles.

He said there are more pressing priorities other than the vehicles.

Thang’wa and Kabogo toured Githunguri subcounty yesterday to give out bursary cheques.

“MCAs have received the supplementary budget which we will pass but we will not pass the budget for 72 cars,” Thang’wa said.

“We want the levies picked from Kiambu people to go into buying medicine, putting up water projects and good roads.”

Kabogo said whatever the assembly will pass is what he will work with.

“Those talking politics are like a fly which I brush off and continue. Don’t come here and tell us MCAs will not pass the budget, you [Thang’wa] go and oppose it, it is your right,” Kabogo said.

He said some MCAs “are not yet circumcised nor have beards” and do not know how politics is played. Kabogo did not issue the bursary cheques for Ngewa ward.

He said the ward bursary board chairman was absent and refused to hand them over to Thang’wa.

Speaking separately, Limuru Central MCA Njenga Murugami said ward administrators are being used by the governor to fight the MCAs.

He said the vehicles are part of goodies they have been promised.

“We reject the move by the governor to buy the 72 vehicles as we want the money to buy medicine, put up water projects and other developments,” Murugami said.
