A photo of Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni running up a hill ahead of his aides has stirred an online debate about his physical fitness.
The photo was posted on State House Uganda’s Facebook page a week after Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe fell at an airport.
Several people who commented on it endorsed Museveni for another term in office, come 2016, saying he is ‘fit’ for the job.
Museveni, who has ruled Uganda for the last 29 years, recently said he will still run for presidencyย ‘because Ugandans want him to.’
The photo does not indicate why he and his aides ran up the hill, but it may have been just for fun.
Museveniโs photo is in stark contrast to several of Mugabe’s tumble at Harare International Airport last Wednesday.
Mugabe fell off the dais and landed on all fours while heading to his limousine after addressing supporters.
He had just returned from the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
His security detail quickly assisted him into the vehicle which sped off shortly after, but not before members of the press took shots.
Some were forced to delete the photos, but others posted them on social media immediately causing a stir.
Zimbabwe denied the fall over lack of sufficient evidence, an official saying Mugabe only tumbled after tripping over a hump on a carpet.
A report in the Zimbabwe Standard, one of the country’s leading publications, said 27 bodyguards were suspended, and a probe into Air Zimbabwe and the airport launched.
