I am being accused of inheriting my family land – Orengo

OrengoSiaya senator James Orengo on Friday dismissed corruption allegations against him, saying he acquired the land in question after his father died in 1965.

“I have been called here. The main allegation is a piece of land I inherited from my parents, all these allegations are baseless,” he said after being questioned at Integrity centre.

Orengo was accompanied by Machakos senator Johnstone Muthama and his lawyer Betty Murungi.

He denied any wrongdoing during his tenure at the Lands Ministry and instead questioned the authenticity of the report saying it was neither signed nor sealed.

The former Lands Minister is accused of receiving a Sh5 million bribe, for the sale of a plot in Nairobi’s Westlands area to former Nairobi mayor George Aladwa.

Lands commissioner Zablon Mabeya is also alleged to have pocketed Sh5 million for his part in the sale of the public land that was valued at Sh320 million.

The report states that Orengo further irregularly renewed a land lease for plot number No.I.R 861 in 2008 that he had initially acquired in 1975 which had expired.
