Suspects Accused Of Recruiting Youth To Radical Group

Five people in Taita-Taveta county will be spending their nights in the cold after they were arrested by police on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.

The five were arrested in Voi after police suspected that they are linked to the radical group the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC).

It is reported that the suspects were found in possession of a list of over 20 names. The police linked the names to youth that had been recruited to join the outlawed group.

According to Taita Taveta County Commissioner Joseph Olingo Ole Sossio, the suspects were found with a list of over 20 names believed to be of the youth that had been recruited.

Joseph Ole Sossio, county commissioner, Taita Taveta told Citizen TV that the high level of the unemployment across the region has made the area to be prone to radical groups. The youths are lured to joining outlawed ย groups with a promise of a better future.
Sossio disclosed that the five individuals will help the police with investigations. He further urged the residents to remain calm and vigilant.
