Human rights activist Al Amin Kimathi was charged yesterday with assaulting his ex-wife.

He, however, did not answer to the charges as the prosecution was to amend errors on the charge sheet.

Kimathi is accused of beating up Farida Saad, a director at Anda Lucia Academy in Nairobi South B, and injuring her on September 9.

He was also charged with assaulting Fatuma Ali, the school principal, who intervened in the dispute.

Kimathi is also accused of damaging the school’s property worth Sh17,500.

Police say he had visited the school to pick up one of his daughters when he quarrelled with Saad.

When Saad and Fatuma stood in court to face him yesterday, Kimathi said he could not identify his ex-wife between the two because they were dressed in hijab.

He sought a deferment of his plea, accusing the prosecution of not indicating the exact time he allegedly assaulted the two.

Makadara chief magistrate Heston Nyaga deferred the plea taking until September 22.
