A man accused of sedating and raping patients was yesterday taken to a psychiatrist for examination at the Mathari Hospital.

Detectives from the Serious Crimes Unit are yet to take Mugo wa Wairimu’s statement until doctors establish if he is of sound mind.

The investigators and officials from the medical board are today scheduled to revisit his Prestige Clinic at Githurai 44 to gather more evidence.

The investigators will compare the hospital facilities with the images captured on camera as Wairimu allegedly sedated his patients and raped them.

The investigators have a hard time piecing together the case after numerous victims interviewed on TV failed to record statements at CID headquarters.

By last evening, only two victims – a woman whose title deed the doctor is said to have confiscated over unpaid bills and another woman who claims to have been sedated – came out.

Another victim (name withheld) said she was sedated but does not recall being raped by Wairimu.

Police sources said yesterday they are yet to receive serious evidence linking the doctor to the offence of rape.

Such cases require proof beyond reasonable doubt for police to secure a conviction.

Wairimu was arrested last Thursday at a restaurant in Limuru, where he was having tea.

He had gone into hiding when he discovered police were looking for him.

A Nairobi court has given the police two weeks to conclude investigations.

The expose linking Wairimu to rape aired on Citizen TV and caused a public outcry.

A man was filmed having sex with women he is claimed to have sedated after they sought treatment at his clinic.

Wairimu is a notorious social media commentator accused of wishing death on Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar.

He has a pending case at the Makadara law courts, where he was charged with operating a clinic without a licence.

Kasarani CID chief Valery Obore said yesterday the hearing will resume in November.
