Investigators from the Special Crimes Police Unit on Tuesday took their probe into the fake gynaecologist Mugo wa Wairimu‘s clinic, in a bid to gather evidence that would build a strong case against him.
During the investigations, the kind of medical equipment and the capacity of the clinic baffled officers as they combed for evidence.
Mugo who is accused of sedating and raping his patients seemed to have used a considerable amount of resources to equip his facility with medical instruments at the theatre and also at his dental unit.
The officers were surprised to realise that the clinic had a 20-bed capacity contrary to how one may have seen it from outside.
Also as they conducted the search, detectives noticed that some rooms at the Prestige Healthcare in Githurai were fitted with tough metallic doors which made access difficult.
The detectives who were interested in securing records of patients could only get a few, as some files appeared missing.
At the time of investigations, the deserted clinic had scores of drugs suspected to have been used by the Wairimu in sedating his victims.
The Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board, confirmed that Mugo wa Wairimu was not a registered medic hence closed down the facility after the ‘gyanaecologist’ was a exposed on national TV.
Meanwhile, the police have however admitted difficulties in finding adequate evidence for successful prosecution of the phony doctor.
Head of Serious Crimes Unit, John Kariuki on Tuesday urged members of the public with information useful in the case to present to the authorities as required by law.
