VIDEO:Kenyans in Diaspora to Launch TRUE CRIME TV Show in NY

Kick startFor many immigrants, moving to a foreign land promises a better life–a good education for the children, more pay for work done, the chance that in a fairly democratic land, we can be anything we want to be. But things don’t always work out this way.

What we so often forget is that we may move across the Atlantic but we will always bring stuff with us. We bring our cultural nuances, we bring our anger and rage, we bring our insecurities, we bring our old habits and dynamics with us.

In the last few years, we’ve seen an increase in homicide/murder cases in the African Diaspora. All that stuff we brought with us contributes to this intimate partner/family violence problem. When these cases are investigated in America, the cultural aspects play a huge factor in how these cases are looked into (or not), the coverage they get, and whether they get resolved or not.

We’d like to launch a TV series that focusses on these crimes, to tell our stories with the sensitivity and understanding they warrant. If we don’t, others soon will, and again we’ll find ourselves wondering why we’re not in charge of our narrative.

Help us take charge of our narrative by contributing to our KickStarter campaign. Your donation will help us create a pilot, which we’ll use a proof of concept to TV networks. Please see our KickStarter Campaign for more on the project.
