A police officer was arrested on Sunday after invading the home of his ex-lover and shooting indiscriminately at the house in Nyayo Estate, Nairobi.

David Otieno Otieno, an officer at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), injured his former lover’s son during the shooting and caused massive damage to property.

Speaking from Mater Hospital where her 21-year-old son had been admitted, Francisca Mulinge said that she escaped death by a whisker.

“David had been threatening to kill me ever since I ended our three year relationship two months ago,” Ms Mulinge told the Star.

Mr Otieno allegedly arrived at the house for the second time in that night at around 12.30am after being turned away by the househelp when he came earlier at 7.30pm.

Ms Mulinge’s son, Chrispus Makau, was watching TV at the living room but declined to open the door after the officer knocked severally, prompting Mr Otieno to angrily shoot at the room and bedrooms through the windows.

The man allegedly forced his way into the estate after threatening to shoot the security guards and is also said to have shot at a neighbour who was peeping from her house.

Mr Otieno said Ms Mulinge had conned him Sh300,000 which he used to start a bar for her, an accusation that the woman strongly denied.

Officers at Embakasi police station claimed to know the accused and termed him as a “good hardworking man who just falls in love too easily”.

Mr Otieno was locked up at the Embakasi police station and will be charged in court on Monday for offence of attempted murder and malicious damage to property.
