President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday narrated his shocking eyewitness account of two traffic police officers who were soliciting and collecting bribes during his recent working tour in the coastal region.

โ€œThe other day when I was in Mombasa, I found two officers picking bribes in broad daylight. Listen, we cannot live like that, to be honest that is unacceptable, isnโ€™t it? the President posed while addressing a meeting of regional and county police bosses at the CID Training School in Nairobi.

The brazen conduct of the two traffic officers, in the full view of the President, sums the frustrations that Kenyan motorists go through on the roads everyday.

President Kenyatta warned that the full force of the law will be applied on government officials caught in corrupt dealings.

During the meeting, the President announced that theย National Police Service will be equipped with Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to help them perform their duties better without depending on the military.

The President said there were also plans to provide Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAPs) to officers deployed in volatile areas.
