Shock, despair, desperation, confusion and mix of other feelings and emotions was the portion of two businessmen in Kenya when they woke up to find their life long business investments gutted down in a night fire, and only ashes left.

Macharia Wainaina and Paul Gikaru were at a loss of words after their vehicle spare parts shops in Limuru town garage were razed down, and nothing, not even a bolt or nut was salvaged.

The two told of how they received tens of shocking calls at 3am informing them of smoke bellowing from the garage where their businesses are located.

“This year has started with great devastation. I could not believe my eyes when I saw everything…burnt to ashes,” said Gikaru.

Macharia, who has children in school wondered aloud how he would take them through school after the loss.

“Tomorrow, one of my daughters will report to secondary school for her first term this year. She needs shopping, school fees among other things,” said Macharia.

Only the two adjacent businesses were razed down.

County leaders sent messages of condolescene to the two affected. The county fire engine also helped stop the fire from spreading to other shops.

Police were also at the scene for investigations.

There was no electricity connection to the businesses, and thus cause of the fire remained unknown.

Kiambu County Assembly Public Relations Officer Njenga Gicheha said, “It is a great loss to the two investors, business community and area’s economic growth.”
