President Uhuru Kenyatta’s ‘adopted’ son Daniel Owira, popularly known as Otonglo has spoken to a local daily about his academic progress and relationship with his ‘dad.’

Owira, who was a student at Highway Secondary School, scored a mean grade of C+ and joined Multimedia University to pursue Broadcast Journalism.

Back in 2013, the President promised to sponsor him through University, and Owira is taking full advantage of that.

“The president is like my father. He pays my fees. He is my mentor and my best friend. I call him dad,” he says.

Asked if he frequently meets the Head of State, Owira says: “Not as frequent. He is very busy. I saw him last in August 2015. I have a way of getting a word to him though.”

The 22 year old also revealed how his popularity has changed the way his friends see him, insisting that becoming a celeb hasn’t changed him as an individual.

“Being on TV and in the news has humbled me. It’s been a good experience, quite challenging at times,” adding that, “I became a ‘celeb’ and now, for some, reason, my friends and most people I know think I have a lot money to dish out, which is not the case.

Asked about who he will be voting between Raila Odinga and his ‘father’ Uhuru, he says: ‘My vote is my secret.”
