Jordan’s King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein will start his state visit to Kenya on Monday where he is expected to hold talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta among other planned activities.
State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu said King Abdullah and President Kenyatta will officiate at the closing of an ongoing ‘Exercise Swift Eagle” at the Embakasi Garrison, Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS).
“Jordan and Kenya are partners of long standing and during his time here. His Majesty and the President will focus their attention on discussions around security and counter-terrorism,” Esipisu said Sunday during his weekly briefing.
Swift Eagle is a nine-day military exercise which focuses on sharing of knowledge and skills in combating emerging complex security challenges.
Kenya is faced with serious terror threats from Somalia-based Al-Shabaab terror group and its ISIS wing, seen as a retaliation and resistance to the battle launched by the Kenyan forces inside Somalia in 2011.
Also expected in the county on October 11 is South Africa President Jacob Zuma, in a visit State House described as key to expanding business opportunities in the country.
“Kenya and South Africa have very strong ties which go back to the days when men and women of courage supported the fight for freedom in both countries and specifically for us against apartheid,” Esipisu said, explaining that the visit will “renew and strengthen that relationship especially important now that we are both leaders in the continent given our leadership roles we look forward to close consultations and agreement especially on interests of immigration – which obviously we are interested in- as well as strengthen our bilateral relations.”
