Governor Alfred Mutua on Monday got tongues wagging after granting a presidential-like welcome to his Kericho counterpart Paul Chepkwony, who is in Machakos County for a three-day visit.
Upon arrival, Governor Mutua gives Chepkwony a unique reception with about 30 well-dressed County inspectorate officers mounting a guard in his honour.
Just like President Uhuru Kenyatta would do while welcoming a visiting head of state, Mutua watches from an elevated platform – complete with a red carpet – as Chepwkony inspects the guard of honour amid heavy rains.
As the visiting Governor concludes the inspection, one of the officers is heard saying, ”May I have your permission to march off the guard of honour sir” before the officers depart.
Chepkwony then joins Governor Mutua on the red carpet before leaving to meet the County officials, who are introduced to him by his host.
Disclosing the purpose of the visit, Dr Mutua stated: “Together with him (chepkwony), I willl inspect and launch several development projects.
The two counties are exploring areas of mutual interest such as agriculture and trade so as to empower our people.”
Mutua’s actions didn’t go unnoticed with a section of the public giving contrasting opinions on the matter.
David Spurs Ndambuki said, “Munasemanga sinema, hii ya leo imezidi ni drama sasa. Mujienjoy while it lasts.”
Jorum Wanjau added, “We,we,we kweli ukubwa ni madedo,,heko mutua,,nauwalike NDIRITU gachagua aone vile job huvanywa.”
While some were of a different opinion and instead congratulated the governor for his creativity.
Dennis Itumbi, stated, “I totally like the creativity of my brother Mutua.”
Kas Laban, “Your creativity and innovation earns you fame.”
