Deputy President William Ruto is in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to represent President Uhuru Kenyatta in a regional meeting of Heads of State.

Ruto is scheduled to attend the open session of the 18th Summit of the Heads of State of the East African Community at State House, Dar es Salaam.

The Deputy President left Nairobi on Saturday morning for the regional body annual meeting.


Top on the agenda for the Heads of State is the status of the EAC political federation.

The regional conference will also discuss the European Union – EAC economic partnership agreement and sustainable financing for the community.

The 18th Summit will receive a report on the integration of South Sudan into the community as well as the progress report on the admission of Somalia into the EAC.

It is also at this summit that Heads of Government will agree on regional duty  importation of used motor vehicles and the phasing out of used clothes and shoes.
