Matiba to be paid Sh945 million after calculation error in torture case
Veteran politician Kenneth Matiba will be paid Sh945 million after Attorney General Githu Muigai consents to enhancement of his compensation from Sh504 million.
This was after it was discovered that there was an error in the calculation.
Last month, Supreme Court judge Isaac Lenaola awarded him Sh504 million for torture in the hands of state agents.
The politician suffered a serious stroke on May 26, 1991, but remained in detention without medication for one week.
The award is the highest paid to a victim of torture so far. The judge had handled the case at the High Court before he was promoted to the apex court.
Lenaola said Matiba had proven great violations were meted upon him by state agents before he was released on June 4, 1991.
