A 70-year-old man in Homa Bay committed suicide reportedly after his second wife abandoned him.
The body of Samuel Onjonga from Kauma Village in Ramba, Rachuonyo East, was found hanging from a tree on Tuesday evening.
Area chief Joseph Ndege said Onjonga’s first wife died in 2012 and that he remarried two years later.
“At his old age, he could not do some household chores so he decided to marry a younger woman who could help him,” he said.
He said the man felt lonely and may have been depressed after the second woman abandoned him.
“His health worsened after she left. His neighbours said he went to bed hungry at times.”
Homa Bay police commander Marius Tum said the man worked as a livestock trader at a nearby market centre.
He said they launched investigations and that the body was taken to Rachuonyo South sub-county hospital mortuary.
