He said The Standard on the phone that he strained his leg as he marched to the gates of KPC on Monday evening following the fire incident at the slum, which killed up to 100 residents.

“The doctors say I have high blood pressure, shock, fatigue and may be operated on my injured leg. They say this may take a week,” he said from the hospital bed.

Mbuvi was among legislators who visited the slum following the fire incident and spent the better part of the day viewing the charred bodies. He looked physically disturbed as he led a group of youths he had mobilised in rescuing the victims.

It was later in the evening that he tried to lead a protest to the company offices that he strained his leg. Police repulsed the crowd from the gates as more reinforcement was taken there to man the gates.

Nairobi Area deputy PPO Moses Ombati said they will not allow the group to affect operations at the company as he ordered more officers to be deployed there.

Mbuvi was seen limping from the area before being led to a car. Mbuvi who is popularly known as Sonko said he had to heed the doctors’ advise. He said he will push for the compensation of the families.
