Genge artiste Nonini, whose real names are Habert Mbuku Nakitare, will face a criminal trial for allegedly assaulting a local journalist at a city night spot. The singer has denied assaulting the journalist and damaging his camera lens at Rangers Restaurant. The incident occured at a garden party in Lang’ata, the prosecution said.
Nonini was charged before KIbera senior principal magistrate Grace Nzioka and has been granted a bond of Sh30,000 or an alternative of Sh 0,000 cash bail. Nonini allegedly assaulted and injured Pius Kiprono Cheruiyot on June 11.
The magistrate said the value of the alledged damaged camera lens that may have helped in determining the suspect’s bond terms was not included in the charge sheet, thus gave him the benefit of doubt. He has been out on a police cash bail of Sh5,000 since Kiprono reported the alleged assault at the Lang’ata Police station.
Four witnesses are lined up to testify. The case will be heard on September 3. Nonini was ordered to appear for a mention of the case in the same court in two weeks.
