Zachary Kimotho of ‘Bring Zack Back Home’ Campaign Hospitalized, Urgently Needs Blood Donation

The Kenyan community at home and abroad is rallying behind Zachary Kimotho, the inspirational figure behind the widely recognized “Bring Zack Back Home” campaign, after reports emerged that he has been admitted to Nairobi Hospital.

While details surrounding his illness have not been publicly disclosed, family members and supporters have issued an urgent appeal for blood donations, specifically from individuals with blood group O, to support his treatment and recovery.

A Symbol of Hope for Spinal Injury Victims

Zachary Kimotho, popularly known as Zack, became a national inspiration through the Bring Zack Back Home campaign, an initiative aimed at raising funds to establish a specialized spinal injury treatment center in Kenya.

The campaign highlighted the challenges faced by spinal injury patients who are often forced to travel abroad to access advanced treatment and rehabilitation services. Through his determination and advocacy, Zack brought national attention to the urgent need for specialized spinal care within the country.

In a powerful demonstration of the daily struggles experienced by people living with spinal injuries, Zack embarked on a symbolic wheelchair journey toward South Africa, the location of the nearest advanced spinal treatment facility. His courageous campaign touched thousands of lives and attracted widespread support from Kenyans both locally and across the diaspora.

Millions Raised Through National Fundraising Effort

The Bring Zack Back Home initiative received overwhelming public support, with donations collected primarily through Safaricom’s fundraising platforms.

By the conclusion of the campaign’s first phase, more than KSh 70 million had been raised toward the ambitious target of KSh 250 million needed to establish the specialized treatment center.

The first phase officially ended on August 17 after Zack had covered approximately 115 kilometers in his wheelchair, capturing the attention and admiration of supporters nationwide.

An Inspiring Journey of Resilience

Before becoming an advocate for spinal injury awareness, Zack built an impressive academic foundation.

He attended Nyeri High School before proceeding to Nakuru High School for his advanced-level education. He later graduated from the University of Nairobi with a degree in Veterinary Medicine.

However, his life changed dramatically in 2004 when he was shot at close range during a violent carjacking incident along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway. The attack left him paralyzed from the waist down.

Rather than allowing the tragedy to define him, Zack transformed his personal struggle into a mission to improve the lives of countless spinal injury patients across Kenya.

Diaspora Community Asked to Support

As news of his hospitalization spreads, Kenyans around the world are being encouraged to support the urgent blood donation appeal and keep Zack in their prayers.

Many members of the Kenyan diaspora have previously contributed to the Bring Zack Back Home campaign and are once again expressing solidarity with the man whose courage inspired a nation.

Those who are eligible and able to donate blood group O are encouraged to do so, not only for Zack but also for the many patients whose lives depend on timely blood donations.

The Kenyan diaspora community joins family, friends, and supporters in wishing Zachary Kimotho a speedy and full recovery.

Get Well Soon, Zack.
