Thursday January 17, 2013 – Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has been thrown out of the today’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nomination, for lack of recognised academic credentials.
ODM Election Board chairman Franklin Bett announced this on Wednesday evening which sent Wanjiru’s supporters into panic mode.
Bett said Wanjiru’s academic qualifications from Vineyard Harvester Bible College and a Bachelors degree in Christian Leadership from United Graduate College and Seminary International were rejected by the Commission for Higher Education (CHE).
“It worries me a lot and I real feel for Wanjiru. As a board we have written to CHE to come and explain to us what they mean by a degree that is “authenticated” and “equated” in their earlier communication to us,” Bett said at a press conference on Wednesday evening.
Rumour has it that Wanjiru who is also the Assistant Minister of Housing sobbed through the night after the unexpected happened.
Wanjiru claimed that Prime Minister Raila Odinga duped her when he promised her direct nomination for the Nairobi governor seat.
Currently, former Mumias Sugar CEO Dr Evans Kidero, who has also expressed interest for the seat in an ODM ticket, will go unopposed if Wanjiru’s ban remains.
