Kenyans in the Diaspora ย have launched a petition hoping to get at least one million signatures onย www.diasporacounty.comย and present them to the Kenyan government and Kenyaโ€™s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC saying they can vote.

Betting on technology, the Kenyans say a leading internet technology company ย in the US believes they is still time to include Kenyans in the Diaspora to participate online in the March general elections. The firm has offered to develop a secure and customized platform for Kenya where Kenyans can vote online from any part of the world. A similar service has been used successfully several times to enable diplomatic and military personnel stationed outside the US to take part in presidential elections.

The online petition which is for Kenyan-born nationals studying, living and working outside Kenya has alreay raised over one hundred thousand signatures in just a few days. The petition seeks to ensure a free, fair and transparent election process for all Kenyans, regardless of what part of the world they live in.

An estimated over 3 million Kenyans are in the diaspora and they contribute over 5 percent of Kenyaโ€™s GDP. Theyย believeย that whether one is in the US, the UK, Ireland, Europe, Japan, Australia, Middle East, South Africa, South Sudan or Uganda should take part in the election process.
