Latest Updates on Mohamed Abduba Dida
Mohamed Abduba Dida is a Kenyan former teacher and politician who gained national attention during his bids for the presidency in 2013 and 2017.
Known for his candid and unconventional campaign style, he ran under the Alliance for Real Change (ARC) party, securing 0.43% of the vote in 2013 and 0.25% in 2017.
Dida previously taught English Literature and Religion at institutions such as Lenana School and Dadaab Secondary School.
In 2022, Dida was convicted in McLean County, Illinois, on two charges: stalking and transmitting threats (resulting in a two-year sentence), and aggravated stalking and violating a restraining order (resulting in a five-year sentence).
He is currently serving a seven-year sentence at the Big Muddy River Correctional Center in Illinois, with a projected release date of April 3, 2029.
Reports indicate that the charges stemmed from a domestic dispute with his American wife, which escalated into legal action. Dida’s Kenyan family has expressed surprise at the severity of the sentence, as they were initially unaware of the legal proceedings until after his incarceration.
While incarcerated, Dida has filed a lawsuit challenging the conditions of his imprisonment, including claims of inadequate medical care and restrictions on his religious practices.
In May 2024, a U.S. Magistrate Judge ordered an investigation into his medical treatment, though the court dismissed his claims regarding access to educational or vocational programs.
Dida’s case has attracted attention due to his previous prominence in Kenyan politics and the circumstances leading to his current situation.
