NAIROBI, KENYA: Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has been asked to stop his attacks against the Judiciary regarding the ruling by the Supreme Court over the Presidential election.

Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri said that Raila’s public utterances against the Judiciary were uncalled for and should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves.

“What Raila should know and accept as a reality is that he did not only lose the 2013 Presidential election to President Uhuru Kenyatta but also lost the presidential petition in the Supreme Court” Ngunjiri told The Standard on Sunday.

Ngunjiri reminded Raila that he had while filing the petition said that he would respect and be bound by the decision of the Supreme Court.

“When did the position on respecting the outcome of the decision change for Raila? It seems that democracy for him only applies when he has his way while anything and situation that does not favour him is undemocratic,” Ngunjiri said.

He added, “The former Prime Minister should simply retire from politics and travel the world as he would never ascend to the Presidency.

The last general election provided him with the greatest opportunity ever to become the country’s President but he could not marshal the support required under the constitution to be declared the winner,” he said

Ngunjiri said that the Judiciary under Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga ought to be respected by Kenyans from all walks of life and that the decision by the Supreme Court on the Presidential poll was final.

Raila recently hit out at Dr Mutunga over the ruling on the Presidential petition by the Supreme Court and claimed that people had lost trust on the Judiciary.

The former PM also hit out at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for allegedly mismanaging the last general election adding that the Commission should not conduct the 2017 poll.
