Even as the Makueni residents await the High Court’s decision on Kethi Kilonzo’s eligibility to vie, the other candidates for the Makueni Senatorial race continue to intensify their campaigns.

Jubilee’s Philip Kaloki spent his time meeting with leaders of various churches in Makindu, while Jane Kitundu of the Labour Party embarked on a meet the people tour in areas of Mbooni as she stepped up her campaigns.

Campaigns are intensifying ahead of the Makueni County by-election, scheduled for July 26, 2025, following the passing of Senator Mutula Kilonzo Sr.

The Wiper Democratic Movement has nominated his son, Mutula Kilonzo Jr., as their candidate for the senatorial seat. Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has pledged to remain in Makueni County until the election to ensure the seat is retained.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cleared five candidates to run for the gubernatorial seat in Makueni County.

Among them are David Wambua Masika (ODM), Patrick Mweu Musimba (Independent), Emmanuel Musau Mutisya (UDA), Anderson Kaloki Mwanza (Independent), and Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr. (Wiper).

Kilonzo Jr. has emphasized the completion of key infrastructure projects, such as the Ukia-Emali road and the Thwake Dam, as his top priorities if elected.

With the election date approaching, political parties and candidates are ramping up their campaigns, holding multiple public engagements daily to connect with voters and garner support.
