Imagine spending a night in a mortuary, right in the company of the dead and yet you are alive. This is the experience a twenty four-year-old man in Vihiga county went through after he was attacked by a group of armed men leaving him for dead.

His lifeless body was later picked by the police and taken to Vihiga district hospital mortuary. But twelve hours later, Willis Omunda regained consciousness due to the freezing conditions of the morgue only to realize that he was sleeping next to dead bodies.

A remarkable incident occurred in Kenya when Paul Mutora, a man who had attempted suicide by ingesting insecticide, was mistakenly declared dead and placed in a morgue.

The next day, mortuary workers were startled to find him alive after hearing noises from the cold storage room.

They fled in shock, but upon returning, they discovered he was breathing. He was promptly transferred back to Naivasha District Hospital, where he recovered without needing embalming.

The hospital later clarified that the medication used to treat him had slowed his heartbeat, leading to the misdiagnosis.
