Kiminini MP Dr Chris Wamalwa has differed with his Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leaders in their quest to push for a referendum.
Speaking in Kitale, Wamalwa said that the reason for the referendum is to give counties more economic muscle, which in his view is of no necessity.
Wamalwa said he does not support any referendum whether on the parliamentary system or addition of funding to county governments because the exercise is ill timed.
The CORD deputy chief whip said it is true that counties are going through teething problems but they should be left to demonstrate what they can do with the little they have before receiving additional money in the next financial year.
Wamalwa called on county assemblies to keep an eye on how governors are spending the money instead of playing loyalty to the county bosses yet they are not their juniors.
Wamalwa also appealed to the government to beef up security in Trans Nzoia County so as to ease tension in Kiminini area where there have been insecurity cases in the recent past.
