More Details About Moses Wetang’ula Losing Seat

Moses Wetang’ula, a key figure in the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD), lost his Bungoma Senate seat in 2013 after the High Court nullified his election due to significant irregularities, including voter bribery and double voting.

In the subsequent by-election held on December 8, 2022, Wetang’ula’s long-serving personal assistant, Wafula Wakoli, won the seat with 66,032 votes, defeating UDA’s Mwambu Mabonga (45,907 votes) and DAP-K’s Wafula Wamunyinyi (20,519 votes). This victory allowed Wetang’ula to maintain Ford Kenya’s presence in the Senate.

Wakoli’s win was significant, as it marked a political triumph for Wetang’ula, who had resigned from the Senate to become the National Assembly Speaker. The by-election outcome demonstrated Ford Kenya’s continued influence in Bungoma County.
