Barasa in court to block ICC arrest, extradition
NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 8 – Wanted Kenyan activist Walter Barasa has now filed a constitutional petition seeking to block his arrest and extradition to the International Criminal Court over alleged witness bribery.
In documents filed in court on Tuesday afternoon, Barasa says his rights and freedoms are likely to be violated if sent to The Hague, where he is wanted to face witness tampering charges.
Barasa now wants to be tried locally to ensure his rights as enshrined in the constitution are safeguarded.
ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has accused him of attempting to bribe witnesses testifying in the case against Deputy President William Ruto.
The government has said it can only arrest and send him to The Hague once a determination is made by a Kenyan court as required by law.-capitalfm.co.ke
