The war of words between Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Senator Mike Sonko escalated over the weekend as the two engaged in a fierce exchange of barbs.
Governor Kidero accused Sonko of engaging in constant efforts to frustrate his tenure.
He said Sonko has been “using incitement and postures meant to intimidate, embarrass and frustrate service delivery in the city.”
“You will agree that negative and uncaring politics will not avail water in our taps, clear our streets of garbage and fill pot-holes, nor create the much needed favorable environment for investment that will afford our youth the much needed employment opportunities,” the governor said in statement released by County Legal Counsel Gad Awuonda .
Dr Kidero’s statement is a riposte to Sonko’s letter to County Hall that seeks bring the governor to account over allegations of corruption and wastage of resources.
The senator wants the audited accounts of day-to-day collection of parking fees as well as the previous charges before the introduction of the new rates.
He has also set his eyes on land rates over what he purports of procedural notices and waivers which have not been opened to public scrutiny.
Mr Sonko accuses the governor of wastage by hiring staff without set portfolios, who are costing the tax payer in remunerations.
The governor, in his sharp reply, said Senator Sonko’s six year tenure as an elected leader has been unproductive.
“You will agree that it has consisted mainly of callous pretense of sympathy with the victims of disasters and the less fortunate. You have also consistently sided with law breakers for reasons only known to you,” he says.-nairobinews
