12 SHOPS IN NAIROBI ‘FUNDING TERRORISTS’

Twelve shops in the city centre are being investigated by security chiefs who believe they are owned by terrorists’ money men.

One of the shops is on Koinange Street, two are on Biashara Street, three are at Kimathi Street and three more are near Jamia Mall.

The whereabouts of the other three — also in the CBD — cannot be revealed for security reasons.

They are being run by people suspected of funding radical schools and also sending money directly to Al Shabaab agents in Nairobi and Mombasa.

According to one senior police inspector, whose name has been withheld for operational reasons, the shop owners also work as emissaries for the group.

He said police intend to arrest and prosecute them once they have established the paper trail that proves they are funding the group.

The police chief said: “The premises will also be closed after a thorough search to establish that they are not hiding weapons for the terror group, like happened at Westgate Mall.”-nairobinews
