London, United Kingdom: First Lady Margaret Kenyatta arrived in London, United Kingdom early Tuesday morning ready for the 42 kilometre London Marathon this Sunday.

The plane carrying the First Lady and her entourage touched down at Heathrow Airport shortly before 7 am local time.

On arrival, the First Lady was received by the Kenyan High Commissioner to the UK Ambassador Ephraim Ngare and the Commission’s staff.

Participants in the Marathon will run across some of London’s iconic landmarks and tourist attractions including the Tower Bridge, the Cutty Sark, Canary Wharf and the London Eye among others.

Participants include professional athletes, the disabled as well as those running for charity.

The First Lady is participating in the marathon to raise awareness and funds for her ‘Beyond Zero Campaign’ which she launched on 24 January this year.

The initiative is aimed at improving maternal and child health care in Kenya as well as accelerating implementation of the national plan towards the elimination of new HIV infections from mothers to children.

Apart from Kenya’s First Lady, who is making history as the spouse of a sitting President to participate in the marathon, other prominent personalities taking part in the race include the United Kingdom’s Minister for Children and Families Edward Timpson and several Members of Parliament who are also running for charity.
