Rita Jeptoo wins Boston Marathon in new course record

Kenyaโ€™s Rita Jeptoo has Monday successfully defended her Boston Marathon title in a course record of 2:18:57 to win the women’s race.

Following closely behind her were Ethiopiaโ€™s Buzunesh Deba and Mare Dibaba in second and third positions respectively.

Another Kenyan Jemima Jelagat Sumgong was in the fourth position.

In the menโ€™s race, Americaโ€™s Meb Keflezighi took the title in 2:01:49 making it the first time since 1983 for an American man to win the Boston Marathon.

He beat a strong field of Kenyan and Ethiopian athletes.

Kenyaโ€™s Wilson Chebet settled for second position in a time of 2:01:57 while compatriot Frankline Chepkwony was in third position in a time of 2:02:13.
