Kenya will not continue hosting refugees at the expense of peace and suffering of its citizens, President Uhuru Kenyatta said Friday.

President Kenyatta said the country hosts more than one million refugees in the spirit of good neighbourliness โ€œas the Bible demands that we do.โ€

However, he said this had brought pain and suffering through terror attacks which has killed and maimed many innocent Kenyans.

The President spoke at Catholic Vincentian Retreat Centre in Thika, Kiambu County where he attended a special service and inaugurated a new auditorium.

ULTIMATUM

President Kenyatta also gave a two-week ultimatum to those in possession of illegal weapons to surrender them or face the law when he later presided over a pass out ceremony for new police recruits in Kiganjo, Nyeri County.

During the service in Thika, the President dismissed terroristsโ€™ claims that Kenyan soldiers must withdraw from Somalia for the terror to end.

โ€œKenyans weren’t in Somalia when terrorists bombed the American Embassy in 1998; Kenyans were not in Somalia when they attacked Mombasa and shot at an aircraft in 2002,โ€ he said.
President Kenyatta said Kenyans would not accept to be divided by terrorists who want their criminal activities to be seen as a religious war.

He said terrorists are out to divide Kenyans along religious lines adding that the country would allow criminal elements to destroy the peace.
