Kisii, Kenya: Voting in all 65 polling stations in Bonchari constituency ended shortly after 6pm and tallying shows Ford People candidate Zebedeo Opore taking an early lead.

Ford People candidate Zebedeo Opore, ODMโ€™s John Oyioka and Wiperโ€™s Charles Onyancha are some of the candidates of the parliamentary seat that fell vacant after Court of Appeal nullified the election of Oyioka.

There are a total of seven candidates. In 57 out of the 65 polling stations, Opore has 7,171 votes, Oyioka 5,008 and Onyancha 3,823. Electronic voter identification devices (EVIDs) were used to ensure there is no double voting.

Results from polling stations are being transmitted electronically through the results transmission system (RTS) to the tallying centre at Itierio Boys Secondary school.

So far the voter identification devices have worked without hitches. “We have the EVIDs and we expect they will work 100 per cent. We will be streaming the results as they come,” said Peter Resa, the constituency returning officer. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officers at the polling stations are required to send the results on phone then later carry the signed forms to the tallying centre.
