vickyPolice in the United States say a Kenyan woman struck and killed by a train in Columbus, Ohio may have committed suicide.

Maj. Steve Tucker, who is leading investigations into a grisly incident, told a media briefing in Columbus that it was likely Ms Victoria Nyambura Muchiri committed suicide.

“We are investigating the matter as a possible suicide,” he said.

On Thursday night, a fast moving train hit Ms Muchiri, 22, killing her on the spot.

On Friday, a Norfolk Southern Rail Company engineer who was on the train when the incident occurred told the Nation that the woman did not move even after the locomotive operator blew the horn.

“She got in the path of the approaching train and made no attempts to escape from being struck. She just stood there,” he said.

Ms Muchiri was a student at Ohio State University, Maj. Tucker said. Her car was found in an adjacent parking lot.
