A Kenyan man with the US Marines dies in Nairobi, to be buried in Dallas

kennedy-560x420Kennedy Otieno Okumu died at the Mama Lucy Hospital in Nairobi succumbing to gunshot wounds. His body was transferred back to Dallas, TX where he will be laid to rest as per his wishes.

Kennedy was a beloved dad, family and friend to many. He was a son Grace A. Ojwang and Joel N. Okumu. He was a beloved father to Paxton and Shamandra.

Kennedy was born August 5, 1986 and passed away on November 21, 2014. He graduated high school from Usenge High School and then enrolled into Kenya Polytechnic where he studied IT before immigrating to the Dallas, Texas area. He worked at Sunrise Senior Living before joining the United States Marine Corp. He went to San Diego, California where he successfully completed Basic Combat Training before transferring to Florida where he again successfully completed his Advanced Initial Training as an Aviation Mechanic.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 6:00-8:00 P.M., Friday evening, December 12, 2014 at ARIA Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75252. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Hunters Glen Baptist Church 4001 Custer Road, Plano, Texas 75023. A graveside service will be held the same day at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas at 1:00 P.M.
