Cord has said it will not be cowed by Jubilee’s “unorthodox means” of weakening it ahead of the Kajiado Central by-election.
Leader Raila Odinga said it is inexcusable for Jubilee to spend taxpayers’ money on campaigns after poaching an elected ODM member.
“To our opponents, you are at a liberty to carry the whole of Central Bank to Kajiado, but prepare yourselves for a humiliating defeat,” he said.
“We are the lions and there is no day a lion has ever been scared by a leopard,” he added, saying Cord will have a landslide victory.
He was speaking during the presentation of a nomination certificate to flag bearer Elijah Memusi at Orange House on Wednesday.
Regarding the Homa Bay senator by-election, Raila accused the IEBC of handling cases of violence against candidate Moses Kajwang unfairly.
“It will be defeatist for the IEBC to cancel the by-election when they know they have not taken action against those reported to be sponsoring violence in Homa Bay,” he said.
He condemned the acts saying the coalition will go to Kajiado Central with “sweet words” and policies, not war and taxpayers’ money.
He however blamed the government and security agencies for not providing enough security during the campaign period.
Cord Co-principal Moses Wetang’ula asked Kajiado Central residents not be swayed by ‘small handouts”.
Wetang’ula said the people are tired of bad governance and that change is nigh.
ODM secretary general Ababu Namwamba said, “This was our seat. It belongs to us. We shall go there and mount the mother of all campaigns. We shall not disappoint.”
Memusi said he will not be intimidated by Jubilee’s tactics.
“Let my people eat the money because it is theirs. They must welcome all this with open arms, but they know whom to vote for,” he said.
IEBC Voter registration director Immaculate Kassait warned on Tuesday that returning officers have the powers to cancel violent elections.
The commission said it will monitor the Homa Bay by-election for 48 hours and cancel it if it turns chaotic.
