NAIROBI, Kenya, August 21 – Thieves broke into the Karen home of Pastor James Ng’ang’a early Friday morning and made away with Sh500,000 in cash and an assortment of jewellery.

According to police, the thugs who were armed with pistols also stole laptops, and mobile phones.

“The incident took place at about 3am. The wife of the pastor was in the house but she was unharmed during the incident,” Lang’ata Deputy police chief Mwangi Kuria told Capital FM News.

Kuria said the thugs ran away after firing at police officers who were in the vicinity.

The robbery comes at a time when the beleaguered pastor is facing charges of causing death while driving along Limuru road.

Pastor Ng’ang’a spent a second night in police custody Thursday night, pending a ruling Friday whether to grant him and three of his co-accused bail.

The four of them applied for release after facing charges over the road accident last month in which Mercy Njeri was killed.

The State however opposed the application, saying they all previously allegedly conspired to defeat justice.

State Counsel Aloice Okemo argued that if granted bail, the four were likely to interfere with witnesses and subvert justice, in addition to being flight risks.
