A Gatundu man is being held in a hospital in New Delhi, India, over a Sh1.3 million hospital bill.

George Kariuki, 53, who comes from Muthurumbi village in Gatundu was diagnosed with kidney failure in August 2014 at Ladnan Hospital, Nairobi.

He was advised to go for a kidney transplant at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital.

The family held fundraisers and sold Kariuki’s land to raise Sh15 million.

The father-of-two, his younger brother John Gitau, who was to donate the kidney, and niece Peris Wambui left on August 17.

After the operation on August 5, Kariuki developed complications and was readmitted.

The family is appealing to well-wishers to help bring Kariuki back home.
