Raila in fresh strategy ahead of 2017 polls

RailaCord Leader Raila Odinga is laying the groundwork for a do-or-die battle against President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017, as perceived political blunders by Jubilee reached a crescendo.

It has emerged that on Sunday, Raila will be hosted in Bomet by Governor Isaac Rutto – a chief Jubilee critic – in what appears to be the beginning of a new political reunion.

After a church service at Chepseon in Rutto’s Chepalungu backyard, Raila meets Mau Forest evictees.

“Raila will attend a fundraiser in aid of a church founded by the governor’s father,” Rutto’s aide Ben Siele told the Star,

Raila and Rutto will again team up on Friday next week in the UK where perceived pro-democracy champions will converge for the launch of a book on the late politician Jean-Marie Seroney (1927-1982).

On Monday, Raila will lead the ODM brigade to launch the party’s weekly publication, The Kenyan Weekly. The newspaper will give Raila a fresh platform to articulate concerns without being subjected to the usual newsroom gate-keeping.

On Tuesday, Raila will host at Orange House a delegation of more than 400 people from Marakwet county – the perceived political turf of Deputy President William Ruto.

After the UK visit, Raila will fly to Brazil and Israel for at least three weeks.

Also invited to the UK function are former detainees Koigi Wa Mwere, Gitobu Imanyara and literary icon Ngugi Wa Thiong’o.
